Cyclic

Sodium-scented breath in rhythmic rise
a lover's ghost walks aromatic rings
around the mind’s unwithered trace.
The sea, in lapping tongues,
delivers fragments unto caverns deep,
where silence carves the speech of loss.
I rest upon the carbon'd hush of prayer.
Thy gaze, cast down where tidewinds hum,
still gleams like foam-kissed waves
that greet the circling gull
and bear the weight of want unspoken.
And lo, this turning time
might I release thee yet?
For to let thee go
is to remember thee
beyond the span of my knowing.
Filosofi:
The above poem is a poem whose title is inspired by the form of the aromatic compound benzene, cyclic. The poem speaks to the pain and beauty of letting go, specifically the kind of farewell that leaves someone etched more deeply in memory after they're gone than when they were present. The abstract tone doesn’t obscure meaning entirely, just enough to invites reflection. There's circular motion throughout, suggesting how memory, especially of love or grief moves in loops, never quite ending. Just like the title, “Cyclic”.
